English Speakers of Other Languages
There are approximately 500 ESOL students that attend Colvin each year. This year we have redesigned our ESOL program. We currently have 4 ESOL teachers and 5 ESOL paraprofessionals, working in the ESOL department.
Colvin has an all day Newcomer program grades 2nd-5th, for all students who have been in the US less than 12 months and/or have very little English skills.
Colvin has Transition classes for each grade level 2nd-5th. This is for those ESOL students who have some English skills, but still need extra support with the language. The Transition classes focus on reading and writing.
The paraprofessionals support 1st grade ESOL students. They tutor one-on-one and do in class support for the classroom teachers.
Each of our ESOL teachers have a web page for their class. Please use the links below to visit those pages, and learn more about our ESOL program here at Colvin.
