  • Is it linked to by reliable sites?

  • What to other sites say about this one?

(You can perform a link check by following the steps outline below,) 

Steps:

  1. Go to the Website
  2. Highlight and copy the Web address
  3. Go to www.google.com
  4. In the search box, type link:
  5. After the colon, paste the Web address
  6. Click on the Search button
  7. Listed links are sites that link to the website in question.
     

Practice with the following Web addresses:

  1. http://www.ushmm.org/
  2. http://pubweb.northwestern.edu/~abutz/dnews/OneBookOneChicago.html


Truncate Back URL

Truncating back the URL can often provide information about the publisher.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Website 
  2. In the top Address Box, delete the end characters of the URL stopping just before each /  (leave the slash).
  3. Press the Enter key.  Check for information about the author or site host.
  4. Continue this process, one slash at a time, until you reach the domain name (org, edu, com, etc.)
